International Women’s day Celebration at the CBCI Headquarters

8th March, 2018

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India celebrated the International Women’s day with a symbolic and meaningful celebration at its Headquarters in New Delhi. A solemn Eucharistic Celebration in the CBCI Chapel, was presided over by Most Rev Theodore Mascarenhas, the CBCI Secretary General and the Priests residing at the CBCI Centre concelebrated.  The Secretary of CBCI Council for Women and the other Women staff attended the Eucharist. In his enriching homily, Bishop Theodore stressed the need for treating women with equal dignity and respect. Mother Mary, he said, is the role model in the Church because of her obedience to the will of God and her courage in saying “yes” to what God wanted from her. He emphasized on the need to should show solidarity with women and girl children specially those who are exploited and marginalized. On behalf of Women in the Catholic Church in India, Sr Talisha expressed sincere gratitude to the Bishop for his initiative taken to celebrate the day which shows his genuine support and encouragement for gender parity and also to the Priests for their prayer and support.

The Eucharist was followed by honouring women with cutting of the special cake of Women’s day, giving away gifts and a delicious breakfast.

Everybody appreciated this event which was in line with the theme “Press for Progress”, as perhaps for the first time in the history of the CBCI Centre, this Women’s day was celebrated and women were invited for attending the Holy Mass and the celebration thereafter.
