About

The diocesan territory, covering about 31,019 square kilometers, includes the civil districts of Kadapa and Chittoor with a population of 6,974,917 as of 2023, where the principal languages spoken are Telugu, Tamil, and English; the region’s political landscape is mainly influenced by the Indian National Congress and the Telugu Desam Party, while transportation infrastructure is well developed with public buses and railways serving as the primary modes of travel; economically, the area benefits from mineral resources such as lead, barites, asbestos, limestone and the well-known Cuddapah stone used in construction, with cement production forming a major industry in Kadapa, while Chittoor district is known for agro-based industries and horticultural products, with key agricultural crops including groundnut, paddy, sugarcane, cotton, turmeric and jowar; telecommunication facilities are fairly widespread with a radio station located in Kadapa, the literacy rate stands at 64.8 percent, and the region maintains a rich cultural heritage reflected in traditional folk arts such as Burra Katha, along with various local dance and drama forms.
