Training Program on The Effective use of The Social Media

A training program on the effective use of Social Media was conducted by CBCI and CRS on 21st and 22nd Feb, 2019 at Gyanodaya, the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, diocese of Jalandhar. The resource person was Mr. Kushal Neogy from Lucknow. The seminar began with a short prayer by Babu Rajveer at 9:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Martin Sadiq the regional PRO welcomed the Dignitaries.  Rt. Rev. Bp. Agnelo the host of the program addressed the gathering and spoke about the role of Social Media in the Church and the danger of fake news. Then His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Theodore Mascarenhas the Secretary General CBCI addressed the assembly and inspired the participants by emphasizing on the relevance of Social Media in this scenario and shed light on its use and misuse. He also stressed that we should not forward the WhatsApp messages without reading and understanding.

Mr. Kushal Neogy beautifully presented the objectives of the seminar on Social Media. Before entering into the practical realm of Social Media, he highlighted the basic concepts of communication, like the process of communication, facts of communication, challenges in decoding and barriers of communication. Among the Social Media he mainly dealt with Facebook, twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and how to maintain the privacy of our Email accounts.

The second day of workshop on Social Media began with a short prayer by Babu Rajan. Mr. Kushal Neogy the resource person replied to the feedbacks. Then he explained about writing Email, Netiquette and various rules about the E-mail. There was group discussion, on how to be active on Social Media to Evangelize and to contribute for the development of the individuals, the society and Church.

The feedback given by the participants made clear that the training program on Social Media was very effective and useful for day to day life. About 80 persons participated in this seminar among whom there were priests from the Regional dioceses, like Archdiocese of Delhi, Faridabad-Delhi, Jammu – Srinagar, Shimla – Chandigarh, diocese of Jalandhar, Religious Sisters from various congregations, Catechists, Youth and the Lay faithful. Before the conclusion of the seminar Fr. Martin Sadiq thanked the Bishops, the resource person and the participants for their cooperation and active participation.  The seminar was concluded with lunch on the second day.
