Diocese Builds Houses for Poor
15 August,2012
Mangalore: Mangalore diocese is seriously implementing a decision taken on its 125th year to build houses for the landless poor.
On the occasion of India’s Independence Day yesterday, Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore launched a project to build 28 houses at Mariashram Church in Talapady, one of the parishes.
Each house would be constructed at the cost of 360,000 rupees on a 4.15-cent land donated by the diocese.
A week earlier, the bishop had blessed the 100th house under the scheme at Ranipur near Mangalore.
Another 37 houses are under construction and will be ready for occupation soon.
With the Talapady project, the diocese would build a total of 165 houses.
Naveen Cardoza of Marian Project Pvt Ltd has come forward to construct these houses or no profit.
The diocese had planned to construct houses for the economically poor Catholics while celebrating its post-Centenary silver jubilee in February.
